Fundación Psicoeducativa Cumaná

“Developing Skills of Social Value”

We are a non-profit institution based in Cumaná, State of Sucre, Venezuela. We began our activities on July 4, 2014 as a team of professionals with experience in providing psychological and educational help for children ranging from 1 to 12 years of age with developmental disorders. We offer an individualized psychoeducational program, based on Applied Behavioral Analysis (A.B.A.) and verbal behavior.

The Director of FUNDAPSIED, Marielys Gómez, has a daughter Mariana who was diagnosed with autism at the age of three, so she took the initiative to train herself in the subject of special children to help Mariana with the tools for her development and inclusion in society. In 2014, the city of Cumaná did not have any centers to provide support for children with the diagnosis of ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). Marielys started and has directed this Foundation over the past four years, offering individualized therapy for autistic children, guidance and support for parents and family members, and specialized schooling for children with developmental and language disorders, psychomotor retardation, learning difficulties, autism spectrum and behavioral dysfunction. The Foundation prides itself on having a team of professional psychotherapists highly qualified in treating these problems.

We currently serve 55 children with the eventualaim of transitioning them into regular schooling with the least possible limitations. The greatest demand for therapy comes from those who are diagnosed with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). The socioeconomic conditions of many of these children are limited, and they do not have the resources to cover the necessary therapy sessions. Dropping out only leavesthem worse off, without the tools to develop cognitive, psychomotor, language and autonomy skills for an optimal school, social, and work life.

The demand for our services increases every day, but we do not yet have our own center nor the economic resources to cover all these children’s needs. The living conditions of our country (VENEZUELA) have made it very difficult to continue to provide scholarships, support and service to these families who need our help.

It is our passion to help these children and their families, but we need your help. With a small donation, you can help our special children in their development andin their inclusion into society. You can help with a financial donationand/or you can support us with teaching materials, tablets, computers, colors, pencils, toys in good condition, office supplies and more. Everything is welcome.
